In Week four of WRKC competition, the racing just kept getting better.

Once again the club had to break up both the Cadet and Novice classes into A and B groups, based on the strong turnout in both groups.

In the Cadet A class, Hudson Turpin was the winner, Zachery-Michael Hooper was second, Taylor Wassink finished in third and the final two podium spots were filled by Ryley Hulme and Ciarra Collison.

In the Cadet B class, Cole Knipping had the fastest race lap but it was Nolan Quinton who took the win. Knipping finished in second, with Tristan Desilva finishing third. Travis Moberg was fourth and Madison Colling finished fifth.

In Novice A, Jordan Howse led the field to the start line to take the green flag and then led every lap but the last one as Austin Bisschop got by him for the win. Taylor Mantel was third, Dylan Penney was fourth and John Ditner finished in fifth.

The Novice Class B race was Brandon McFerran’s from start to finish, but this wasn’t the case throughout the field. Andrew Whelan managed to pick up one spot to finish in second place, Tyler Paquette also picked up a spot to finish third. Brandon Lowry was fourth and Collin Ogilvie finished in fifth.

Scott Nagel won the Junior Lite final, while Brandon Hauck finished second and Darren Dryden came in third. Jordan Shantz earned a fourth-place finish and Ryan Fraser was in the final podium spot.

The Junior Heavy class staged an exciting final race, in which Joey Atkinson took first, Tristan Gill was second, followed by Eric Van Wyngaarden in third. James Moore finished in fourth, just ahead of Adam Racine.

Tyler Weber continued his winning ways in the Senior Medium class. T. J. Marshall finished second, Tim Kapelke was third and Corey Jones and Shane Stickel were fourth and fifth respectively.

It was a big day for the Dryden family from Flamborough. John Dryden’s autobody repair business was the race day sponsor, and not only did son, Darren, finish on the podium but so did John himself, with a fourth-place finish in the Masters class. Jake Collison was the race winner, Bob Bailey was second, with Randy Knipping finishing third and Daryll Skinner filling the fifth spot.

A constant rain didn’t deter the drivers who turned out for week five of WRKC racing last weekend.

Instead of drawing for starting positions in the first two heat races, the club held a qualifying session with trophies for the fastest qualifier in each class.

The dreary day was brightened up thanks to a shipment of colorful flowers that arrived at the track courtesy of race day sponsor, C. F. Group.

On the track, the day’s fastest qualifiers included Ciarra Collison (Cadet), Austin Bisschop (Novice), Scott Nagel (Jr. Lite), Austin Penney (Jr. Heavy), Lucas Smith (Sr. Medium) and John Dryden (Masters).

In the feature races, Zachery-Michael Hooper was first in Cadet A, Skyler Bailey won the Cadet B round, Travis Mantel was first in Novice, Scott Nagel nabbed the Jr. Lite race and Adam Racine was first in Jr. Heavy. Kevin Monteith placed first in Sr. Medium, and John Hamel won the Masters race.

The next WRKC club race is Sunday, July 5. For more information about the club visit its website at www.wrkc.on.ca
