The Flamborough Tyke 2 Sabres, sponsored by Waterdown Collision, RailTran Services and Hooper Welding, rolled into the U.S.A. recently to demonstrate Canadian hockey at its finest.
Competing in their first tournament, the Sabres got off to a flying start with defenders Holden Johnston, Noah Jacobsen, Kris Doric and Will Curwen kicking ice and taking names. Matthew Damaia, Connor Wilson and Chris Churchill continued their dominant play, freeing up Jack Buiter, Dante DiFelice and Mason Law to work their magic in the attacking zone.
In the second game, the Sabres continued to dominate as Ashton McCarles, Colin MacDougall, Bella Hooper, Matteo McColl, Matthew Stone and Ryan Schaap pounded the opposition goalie. Huge open-ice hits and clever attacking play almost opened up the Toronto goal, but the Sabres’ attack fell just short.
In game three, the Sabres protected goalie Tyler Staresinic, who came up with key saves to keep the score-line tight.
But, despite their best efforts, the Sabres were denied the championship in the end. SabreStars of the week were the entire Sabres coaching staff for making the event such a fantastic experience for the players and parents.
